Have you ever just felt sad? Somehow, you just feel sad. There are thousands of self-help books and seminars that will miraculously make you happy. So, you purchase these books and they sit on a shelf or go partially read. Indeed, you sign up for the seminar and the words just go “blah, blah, blah!”

There are times when you feel sad and (I hate to admit it) you may need to see a professional (life coach , counselor, psychiatrist, psychologist, or medical doctor).

However, I am just thinking of the times that you just feel sad. What do I recommend?

Sad + Memories = Strength
  • Just feel the emotion. As human beings, being sad is a normal emotion. The truth is, if you never felt sad, how would you know what being happy is?

  • It is okay to cry! What a concept? Oftentimes crying serves as a release valve.

  • Apply this formula: sadness + memories = strength. We can all gain strength from being sad. Being sad frequently is connected to memories.Work hard to build on these two elements and strength will be right around the corner.

  • In every sad moment there is a happy moment waiting to be unleashed.Why are you sad? Who said that this had to be a negative thing? Find the opportunity to place humor in the moment.Look in the mirror and really look at your image.Oh my! My nose is running, or my hair looks as though I just ran into a turbine engine, I do not believe that my eyes look like a big red cherry lollipop, etc. Bottom line; cry until you laugh at yourself. You are worth laughing with.

  • Every time you feel sad, remember a happy/funny time.I assure you there are many happy/times in you soul.

  • Look into the eyes of a pet (dog, bird, fish, etc.); there is a wealth of love and admiration there just for you.

  • Listen to Children's Songs, Sesame Street, or simply sing a childhood nursery rhyme.

  • Go for a walk/run or just simply point your toes and stretch your feet.

  • Thank God that you are able to feel the emotion of being sad. Thank God for five things that you have today.
